Some mornings it’s all you can do to get out of bed. Changing out of your pajamas seems overwhelming, unnecessary, and brrr cold. Well, Halloween is the one morning of the year that you can indulge those cozy-lazy tendencies and get away with PJs for work, especially if you happen to be wearing a pair of Japanese Kigurumi pajamas. “Kigurumi” literally means “to wear stuffed animal,” and it refers to animal costumes worn traditionally by performers. Today, these cutesy animal costumes are worn as pajamas, as loungewear (by anyone looking to upgrade their Snuggie), or as a challenge to traditional clothing conventions. (That’s what you should tell your boss!) Choose from animals like frog, cat, tiger, penguin, bunny, dinosaur, panda, and kangaroo.

In 2007, artist Damien Hirst spent more than $20 million creating “For the Love of God,” a sculpture consisting of a platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with 8,601 flawless diamonds, including a pear-shaped pink diamond located in the forehead. It’s a crazy, ridiculous, and kind of amazing piece that inspired much love, disgust, and controversy. (Hello? People are starving!) If you’ve always wanted a jewel-encrusted skull for your mantelpiece, you’ll be delighted to hear that Hirst also inspired knock-offs; I Artist London’s iHirst kit includes a life-size plastic skull, 8,601 crystals, glue, a paintbrush, silver paint, tweezers, and instructions so that you can create a replica of Hirst’s piece or your own version of it. Great gift!

I carved two pumpkins this week, which means now I won’t have to use any special effects to make my hands match my gorey costume when I go trick-or-treating. If you would like to make lighter/faster/less-bloody work of carving your pumpkins, you might want to equip your standard drill with a Pumpkin Gutter attachment. The stainless steel blades rotate to cut loose the strings and flesh from the pumpkin walls quickly and easily, allowing you to thin the walls of the pumpkin to achieve professional carving results.

Remember Evian’s “Roller Babies” ad campaign a few years back? It was so successful that they’ve followed up with a “Baby Inside” campaign that features adults dancing in Evian baby T-shirts, suggesting that Evian brings out the youthful you. Yeah, I know it’s an ad, but I want one. Just add roller skates for Halloween and a bottle of whatever doesn’t make you spit up for every other day.

I get an “Ewwwww!” response to the food I put on the table at least once a week, but if you’ve never inspired such dramatics, you may want to stock your pantry/Halloween party with a few jars of Old Fashioned Brain Jam (raspberry preserves) and Thickest Human Snot (lemon curd). Muwhahaha!
