OUR EDITORIAL STAFF

When it comes to writing, our Members are the supreme backbone of this site, but our editors and writers are working hard to round things out and keep an eye on what our Members want most. Here's to this insightful group of word-filled artists.

OUR ADVISORS

As we built the foundation for DivineCaroline, we asked all kinds of questions and reached out to these notable women to help us find the best answers. We thank each one of them for their unvarnished responses, their encouraging words and their continuing support.

Rebecca Brown
Editor-in-Chief

Rebecca Brown is a writer, a commercial and movie quoting junkie, a spelling bee champion, a pop culture addict, a salsa and burrito connoisseur, and inventor of the question mark. After thirteen years of defining target audiences and observing focus groups, she left to become an advertising copywriter. Feeling confined by taglines and large logos (“make it bigger!”), Rebecca left for the brighter skies of DivineCaroline. She enjoys traveling, reading, eating, baking sweet things, hiking, cardio tai boxing, tall men, dogs that drool and chase balls, Kentucky basketball, March Madness, warm, sunny weather (are you listening, San Francisco?) and pretty much anything French. Rebecca is currently dating Clive Owen, George Clooney, Cillian Murphy, and Gerard Butler. She lives and plays in the greatest city in the world—San Francisco.

Allison Ford
Staff Writer

Allison moved from Ohio to New York City at age eighteen to be a performer. She appeared on film, on stage, and her voice appeared in soundtracks and videogames before she quit show business altogether to write full time. Now in San Francisco, she doesn't miss summer or winter and jogging along the Embarcadero always makes her smile. Although she yearns for New York pizza, she loves California, from the crazy hills of San Francisco to the way people eat avocado with everything. She's a voracious reader whose proudest accomplishment was reading The Canterbury Tales in the original Middle English. Her hidden talents are playing classical piano and dominating at Scattergories, and her deepest desires are to be a domestic goddess and to one day open up a Chik-Fil-A franchise.

Devon Porrino
Editorial Assistant

Devon is a native Jersey girl (no, not like Snooki, who isn’t even from Jersey!), an aunt to a little princess and a junior fireman, and a newcomer to the state of California. Back East, she attended Fairfield University in Connecticut where she learned what it meant to be a Stag and majored in journalism and creative writing. After contemplating becoming a New Yorker, she decided she needed a change and opted for another city … on the opposite coast. Devon made her way to the lovely and humble San Francisco, where she has found a true home at DivineCaroline. Besides having a burning desire to write a book, own a bulldog, become a master baker, attend a yoga retreat, and eat her way through the city (isn’t that what experiencing a new culture is all about?!), she looks forward to learning more about the fast-paced life of the web. Although she will always be a Jersey girl at heart, she loves getting to know San Francisco and all it has to offer.

Amy Copperman
Editor

As editor at DivineCaroline, Amy is realizing her lifelong dream of providing women with fun, intelligent, and witty content that goes far beyond the typical women’s magazine subject matter. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Amy settled back in San Francisco after earning degrees in journalism, English, and women’s studies from Boston University. When she’s not crafting headlines and obsessively reading pop-culture websites, Amy searches for the best dance floor in San Francisco where she can temporarily relive her days as a hip-hop dancer. Her greatest pleasures are Northern California’s rustic beaches, designer coffee (preferably enjoyed at a sidewalk café), words like “supercilious” and “scallywag,” and vintage ephemera.

Renae Hurlbutt
Staff Writer

A Northern California native with word and whimsy in her blood, Renae moved to the city from Sonoma County with the goal of turning her love for all things literary into a paying gig—somehow. Miraculously, she landed an internship at her favorite publishing house, McSweeney’s, within months of her arrival and hasn’t looked back since. Renae was the editorial fellow for San Francisco magazine and has a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Politics from UC Santa Cruz; she also makes a mean cappuccino (a girl’s gotta pay rent) and is prone to impromptu dance breaks. She enjoys sophisticated things like tea and second-hand Beyoncé brand jeans, and this year she aspires to launch her own silkscreen clothing line and water her house plants.

Team_katie

Katie Koschalk
Editorial Assistant

After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2010 with a four-year journalism degree in hand, Katie ventured back to her charming hometown of Mill Valley, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and set her sights on landing a job where she could put her love for writing to use. After serving a stint as an assistant at a dog-culture magazine, Katie left the “doghouse” to become a member of this divine staff. Outside the office, she can be found on outdoor adventures, frolicking around music festivals, or exploring San Francisco (her soon-to-be home!). She can make a mean milkshake (why are all these boys suddenly in my yard?), loves a good adrenaline rush, and is prone to travel bug bites.
