An Unforgettable Coffee House Lesson: Running a Successful Campaign & More!
By Deborah A. Culp
The Honorable Judge Robin Wicks Robinson is as beautiful in spirit as she is in person. Not to mention one of the most talented legal minds and people, that this reporter has had the privilege of meeting and interviewing. We originally met at an inner city public park at a community event. Later our paths crossed again at one of Cape Fear’s largest education endowment fundraising events: The 2011 River Festival.
After that, I figured it was high time that we sat down and talked! And did we talk.. But every word was filled with subsistence, meaning and sincere purpose. “Most of it coming from the judge”. I was especially intrigued by her ability to segue graciously from one point or the other. But make no bones about it; Judge Wicks-Robinson is not just another pretty face or candidate blindly clamoring for public office. She really knows her stuff and she the well earned experience, skills and ability to do the job. Or in this case, “continue doing the job.”
She is running to keep a seat that she was originally appointed for by Governor Bev. Purdue earlier this year. A boilerplate statement of fact runs on her website and Social Media page, reads like this:
“A Non-partisan seat for New Hanover and Pender counties, 24 years of experience, knowledge, and integrity and fairness. Certified family law specialist, mediator and arbitrator.”
Her Honor also answers to other titles such as; wife to husband James “Chip” Robinson, Jr., Mom to her children James Hendry Robinson III, age 13 and Wallace Katherine McLean Robinson age 11. Respected Elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher in her church, 1st Presbyterian of Wilmington, NC and a myriad of community activities and professional board commitments’ too.
What began as a favorite quote from Judge Robin now seems to be an all time favorite to many: “Justice knows no R or D.” Republican or Democratic Party preference does not matter when seeking or running to keep a non-partisan seat such as the one that she is running for.
