When God Writes My Love Story

“Lord, please send someone to be my boyfriend.  If I have already met him, please allow us to meet again.  And if we did not meet yet, please find a way for us to meet. Please.” This was my prayer after reading the book, When God Writes Your Love Story. I found this book at a local bookstore and I loved it.

After a few months of discernment, I prayed again.  “Lord, if it is Your Will not to show ‘the one for me’ yet, it’s ok, I understand.  I want to recant what I previously asked from You.” I reasoned, “Because it’s useless that I enter into a special relationship with someone and I will not be able to handle it with care. Please prepare my heart to love you first. I realized I am not ready and should you be sending him on my way now, I may not spot him right on and I will just miss him. So please, take care of my heart first. Will you be my boyfriend?”

I could not forget this prayer I made in June of 2009.  It was just a few months after we had our 18th International Conference for the singles group in February of the same year in Cebu City, Philippines.  At the last day of the conference, I made a prayer, it was like bribing God for being a good girl and I am asking for  boyfriend, or what we in our community call as a ‘God’s Gift’, pertaining to the one as our special someone.  I clearly remember that I specified a time frame for God to answer my prayer.  It should happen before the sixth month after I said my petitions for my birthday, that month of February.

Months passed by and daily work kept me busy.  Until, it’s once again time for our regional conference in July in Baguio City. I have many valid reasons of not coming, I was sick and busy with work but I finally made my way to be with my group. I was a little sad and at the same time happy because I discovered something that made me close my door to a previous long distance relationship I have been hanging on for so long for no reason at all and that helped me to move on.

Exactly a week after that closure was the conference.  I didn’t know what to expect and I was surprised with how soon God fulfilled His promise. On the first day of the three-day conference, He showed me Ryan, through a couple, both our good friends who have just gotten married very recently.  There they introduced me and Ryan and it happened so naturally.  We had a few conversations and off we went to our own groups.

Later that night, Kuya Meng, the common friend we have, gave me a phone call and I was always enthusiastic and excited to talk to this guy.  He is really good and a dear brother to me. Not knowing that, after we have been introduced, a dare was made for Ryan to speak to me.  I didn’t know and it came as casual as it can, as if he has also been a long time friend.

The conference was over and the following day at work, an unidentified number appeared on my phone, calling. It was Ryan and it was very sweet of him to make the call.  An invitation was then made for us to meet up and hang out, but it appeared that things have happened so fast, and very orchestrated for both of us.

I was on my last days of service from the company I am working with and it was such a great help having Ryan around to share my daily stress and struggles.  We had our first lunch and movie dates and it elevated to having him bring me home as safe as he can always. It was such a perfect gentleman and I am happy to see a Kuya Meng in him. I feel like a princess.
