Double Duty Second Edition by, Christina Tinglof, is a good read for general information on twin pregnancy and parenting young twins. Like any informational book, it has it's pros and cons. The best thing about it is that it covers several topics that parents expecting twins will appreciate in a way that's easy to read and not overwhelming at all. The not so good part is that each topic seems to be covered only breifly. Many of the subjects discussed will certainly leave parents looking for more. On the other hand, it may very well be a good place for parents to start, as it makes for a such quick read.
She starts with interesting facts on twin births and identical vs. fraternal twins. Twin pregnancy is covered, from choosing a doctor, possible complications, diet, etc. Then, on to planning, budgeting and living through that first hectic month. She covers developmental milestones of your twins through various stages. Breastfeeding, as well as bottle feeding is covered with a few helpful drawings on how to position two babies. There's even a bit on international travel. The helpful information on twins sharing a classroom lends some perspective. And, the "Top Five" lists that are found throughout the book are insightful and well thought out. Think, "Top Five Ways To Keep Sane During Bed Rest", and "Top Five Quick Comebacks To Annoying Questions and Comments". The overall tone of the book is friendly, enlightening, occasionally amusing, parent-to-parent advice.
All in all, this book will, indeed, give any parent expecting twins a much better idea of what's going to be involved. At just 183 pages, you could get through it in a few days or less. But, for someone wanting more in-depth information, look for a bigger book or one written by a doctor.
