How Do You Volunteer?

I'm doing a lot of volunteering at this time .It seems to be a good way for me to get my life coaching job off the ground.I do motivational speaking, One on one coaching, lots of encourgement session. I really love to get to see buds of a flower blossom, Women touching and helping each other. No women should die in silent pain whether it be mental, physical or spiritual. I'm not doing this for the money, just to see women grow.
I've volunteered as a zoo educator for almost 18 years, teaching the public about animals, the inter-connectedness of all life and the critical need to preserve and protect what we have. It's fun--everyone loves seeing tigers or elephants and I love getting people to understand our primate natures and "see the light come on," so to speak. It's a tough job--we're just trying to save the world, that's all.
I can't even imagine not volunteering! It keeps me alive, moving, thinking and meeting new people every day. Some of the finest people I know are the closest friends I have are those I've met at the zoo.

I volunteer for a free clinic, teaching woman about their bodies. You'd be shocked how much misinformation is given to women. Young women come in everyday with misconceptions which could cost them their lives.
Currenlty I am working with The American Legion, drafting legislation which would require colleges to give veterans the credits earned and demonstrated on military education transcripts. America should be embarrassed that veterans are having to ask for something they have already earned and our tax $ has paid for. Colleges should not be allowed to disregard a military transcript and make a veteran repeat classes they have already accomplished. My legislation would demand that any college receiving govt $ should be required to give veterans their credits. They laughed at my military transcripts and offered credit for PE--that was a slap in the face. I fought for these people, put my life on the line, & they won't give me my credit/units I worked hard to earn. It is shameful.

I volunteer as a wish granter for Make-A-Wish. It truly is an amazing organization that grants wishes for chronically ill children. After meeting most of the families you come away thankful of all of life's blessings.
So if you are looking for something to add meaning to you r life-get out and volunteer.

Yes! Central America in the early 80's. Food relief and other tasks at hand called upon in this turbulent time and place.

My good friends/neighbors and I go prepare and cook one Saturday or Sunday a month at a soup kitchen that feeds the homeless. The food is delicious, the space is tranquil, and it allows us to converse and connect with those people who most of us tend to ignore on a daily basis here in San Francisco. I also designed a website for the United Nations when I worked there in Bangkok to educate kids in Asia & The Pacific on the dangers of methamphetamines (with use on the rise in Asia & The Pacific). I also love volunteering for some time when I travel, it makes the trip have a lot more meaning and allows me to give back all that I am privileged to have gained by living in a country like America.

I volunteered one day at a family planning clinic. It turned out to be a total disaster. I was given no training. The other volunteer, a nurse on an oncology wing no less, told me it had taken several months to get used to everything. In fact, no one had given her training either. I probably should have stayed with it, but at the time it was too daunting. It's one thing to be pro-choice in theory. It's another to actually face the inside of a clinic with no training for what you'll see.
