Even though I live in Trivandrum, the capital of the Kerala State in India, I am a villager at heart. My village is about 300 (oh we have done away with the system of telling distance in miles) and I go there almost every month to visit some of my cronies who are still alive.
Recently while browsing the internet I found that metal detection could be developed into a hobby. After all, my village sits by the side of an ancient canal which was used by boatmen to transport goods and people to the town nearby. Now with the arrival of lorries and other motorized vehicles the old canal is never used. The idea of dredging the canal has not occurred to anyone. Moreover the canal is below sea level and during the monsoon rains the whole surrounding area gets inundated.
I am thinking of taking up making metal detecting a hobby.
The problem is how to go about it. I only have heard that metal detectors are used for mine sweeping. Can any one of you tell me the way to get hold of one or make one by myself ?
