Video Game Props

For those of you that know me very well, you know I have been obsessed with all things Zelda since I was a little girl playing the original NES game. Recently I discovered a guy that specializes in making video game props. “This guy has too much time on his hands” is probably one of the first thoughts that come to mind but upon a deeper look, its pure talent and genius that is behind his company Volpin Props.

His collection includes items like the syringe from the game Bioshock. The game has some of the most frightening characters ever created in a game. In their arsenal is a giant syringe used to suck the blood from dead bodies in which the characters then drink. In Volpin’s prop he actually filled the canister on the syringe with a mixture of RIT dye, clear hair gel, and water. He says in his post that the hair gel was meant to create more viscosity but the end result ended up being more like red Gatorade rather than more of the consistency of blood. Something I think everyone would be okay with! Another arsenal in Volpins collection is a redone mascot of the hard core gamer community Destructoid and a Portal Gun. With impressive detail and obvious precise calculations, someone needs to get this guy on the set of the next Spiderman and/or Fantastic Four. Volpin could quite possibly be that talented to single handedly save those movies from the awful embarrassment they have caused every geek that paid good money to see it.

Call me biased but the absolute best collection of Volpin’s work are the Zelda: Twilight Princess items. He has brought my obsession to life with his recreation of Midna’s Helm, Link’s Sheild, and yes. THE MASTER SWORD. Although he admits in his blog that the Zelda items were “rushed,” it doesn’t look like it to me! To me, they are pieces of art that should go on display in some sort of video game museum if that even exists. (Please tell me if it does!) Words can only say so much, take a look at the pictures an be amazed.
