Addiction to Cymax Twitter Contests

I never thought I would be someone to get addicted to contests, because after all, what are the chances of winning? However, as more and more of my friends become advocates of extreme couponing and online deal hunting, I got to explore this whole other world. Truth is there are contests out there that are relatively easy to win. It’s definitely harder to win something from huge and well-known companies, for example, P&G, just because of the sheer volume of people who search for them. However, if you are willing to spend that extra bit of time, you will find specialty or niche companies that offer a lot but just don’t get enough exposure.

Lately, through a Twitter friend, I discovered this great Twitter contest online. It’s from Cymax, an online furniture company. Basically what you do is follow all their social media, @CymaxStores_ Twitter being the most important, to see what their contest question will be about. If you tweet about the contest, you get a clue back with the time of date of the next giveaway of $50 to use towards their online store. That’s pretty smart I think, and pretty fun. They posted about it on their blog too. When it comes time to the contest, they usually ask a trivia question about their company.

I wish I found out sooner about this one contest for a bigger prize amount of $125. It also involved their LinkedIn. The trivia question for that particular contest was “What was Cymax’s ranking in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Internet Companies Index for 2010?” The answer can be found on a page in Wikipedia about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymax_Stores. Then you race to answer the question through a tweet.

Cymax has done quite a few of these contests now but I wonder how many more there will be. They recently launched their Google+ page and I bet they will do some sort of promotion with it. Right now, it’s pretty similar to their Facebook. I know I am going to take advantage of these opportunities to see if I can get something in time for Christmas. If I win, I know what I want to get. I am going to keep that to myself until we discuss it because it’s all part of the fun. There is usually a little discussion to share what we plan to get. It’s a great community of people. There aren’t too many people who know about it so although it’s competitive, it’s still friendly. The good thing is my feed doesn’t get that overwhelmed.

There must be more contests like the Cymax Twitter contests out there. If you discover any, please drop me a note! I will continue to share more on here as well.
