The Night I Saw My Grandmother’s Body

Breasts of a girl
Better fruits than mine
For gods sake!
Lovelier
Higher
More shocking
an up-do or
twin flesh beehives
Dark dark nipples
Old baby-lip stained roses did this woman
Really have three children?
Breasts I envied for just a second
Gorgeous—one would think
My grandfather wouldve
Touched her more
I mean with love I mean
“yah. This king-sized bed he couldn’t have
reached me if he tried!”
she said and I was off
I went lonely white miles across
That bed and I smelt
Damage there
While 3 times crooked
She my mother’s mother
Danced out of her panties
I had to turn my face to the hallway
As I am not that brave but
I gather it was nice too
How do those arms still work?
Those hanging handbags
From shoulder to wrist
Guiding her hips along
She still shaves her armpits and her legs
If there was justice
We’d do 25 years hair removal
And it would never grow back but who ever said
It was a fair world?
Miles of
Unused breasts
She and her bony hands
Her speckled body
Her arthritic figure eight
Her double pierced sags of ears
Her blue vine-groped legs
Her dying tree

From Around the Web:
i am so overwhelmed by your poetry. each of your shared poems are twisting in, feeling swift and warm and honest--they catch me off guard and turn me over. i don't know what else to say, except that i hope you publish (many) more at this sight! i look forward to future poems, if the world would be so blessed as to be touched by the heat of your words once again. thank you. please publish more!
