How to Prevent Getting "Over-Trimmed" at the Salon
I’m so excited for my first post here at DivineCaroline! I’m hoping for some really great hair discussions, so please join me in the comments!
I thought for my first post I’d give you one of my most very helpful salon tips. I always say that the most important thing in your relationship with your stylist is communication—if you can’t get through to her or him about what you want, you’re never going to leave the chair happy.
Recently, a good friend of mine (who lives out of state, or else you know I’d be cutting her beautiful hair!) went in for a trim. She just wanted the ends cleaned up, since she has been growing out her hair for the last year, and the stylist took off double what she asked for. All those months of progress reversed. Has this happened to you? What went wrong?
Here is my tip...let’s imagine you want one inch off the length...don’t say one inch, show one inch. For all you know, your stylist’s idea of an inch could mean two, three or ten! And what if their mind works in centimeters? You could be risking a major miscommunication. By showing with your fingers, or pointing to your hair how much you want off, there shouldn’t be any confusion on how much you’re parting with. That means you can relax, open up a fashion mag, and enjoy your haircut. For me, this little trick is foolproof! No one ever cries “too much off!” and my books are full of long haired goddesses!

Inch? Inch? Inch?
