Five Ultra Cool Attractions in the Caribbean
1. Dive to see Grenada’s Underground Sculpture Park.
Here in Grenada’s Molinere Bay, you can dive to see the world’s first underwater sculpture park created by artist Jason de Caires Taylor. The sculptures depict Grenada’s history, culture, and folklore while acting as an artificial reef for marine life. Eerie and awe-inspiring, there’s nothing like it in the world. More on Grenada?
2. Drive up to a semi-active volcano in La Soufriere, St Lucia.
Here in St. Lucia, you can visit the world’s only “drive-in” volcano. The St. Lucia volcano is located in Soufriere, St. Lucia and is a seven-acre volcanic crater or pit that visitors can drive up to and walk through. You’ll see bubbling pools of boiling water and sulphur-filled steam coming from the crater’s pockets. This is one of the closest volcano experiences on Earth and is located in Sulphur Springs Park, which also offers mineral baths and is located nearby St. Lucia’s Pintos. For somewhere to stay in St. Lucia, be sure to Get away with Almond Resorts in St Lucia.
3. Swim with stingrays at Stingray City, Cayman Islands.
This unique pocket of water in the Cayman Islands boasts numerous sandbanks that offer the perfect opportunity to swim with stingrays. These southern stingrays are tame and pose no danger, allowing visitors to pet, feed, and swim with the stingrays. The velvety texture of a stingray is a one-of-a-kind texture and they are gentle beyond belief.
4. Watch the waters light up in Mosquito Bay, Puerto Rico.
At night in Vieques, Puerto Rico, you can see the world’s largest and brightest bioluminescent bay, known as “Bio Bay.” The light is created by micro-organisms called dinoflagellates which glow in the water whenever disturbed and leave a trail of neon blue, white, and green. First encountered by Spanish colonial ships and thought to be the work of the devil, today these underwater fireflies can be seen by boat or kayak.
5. Dunn’s River Falls, Jamaica.
These falls near Ochos Rios in Jamaica are one of the most popular attractions in Jamaica. The river gradually descends, creating a gradual waterfall, rather than a steep one, and offer visitors the opportunity to easily walk up the waterfall with a guide. There are also small pockets of water where you can relax or experience a natural jacuzzi as strong water currents cascade down the waterfall and into the sea. More on Jamaica?
