There’s an old saying that’s usually attributed to French actress Catherine Deneuve: “When a woman reaches a certain age, she has to choose between her fanny and her face.”
What Catherine is getting at is the “Sophie’s Choice” of vanity. As much as women hate extra roundness and softness in their lower bodies, faces need fat to fill out wrinkles and look young. So as a woman ages, she ends up with two choices: Diet and exercise like crazy to stay skinny, which will prematurely age her face, or accept some chub, knowing that her face looks emollient and youthful instead of sunken and stretched.
In many highly scientific online polls, women choose their faces at a rate of three to one, but if you look at many women—actresses, singers, rich urban career ladies, and rich suburban housewives—it’s pretty clear that they’ve chosen their fannies. To them, being sixty and still able to fit into a sample size designer dress is the ultimate victory.
Of course, the main goal is to be healthy and age naturally (which we think is the most beautiful), but for the sake of argument, if you had to choose, which would you pick: your ass or your face?
